A HISTORY STILL IN THE MAKING . . .

In 1967 when Floyd Owens converted an old cattle inspection station into the Cow Pen restaurant, little did he know he’d begun a Delta dining tradition that would continue well into the next century and counting.

Beginning in 1977, under the ownership of Gene and Juanita Grassi, the Cow Pen grew into one of Southeast Arkansas’s largest and best-known eateries. Through the years, the Cow Pen’s steaks, seafood and Mexican and Italian dishes won a number of culinary awards.

In 2007—after thirty years of riding herd at the Cow Pen—Gene and Juanita retired. They handed the reins to the Faulks, a restaurant family from Lake Village. Six months later on a beautiful November evening, the Cow Pen suffered a devastating fire. Click HERE to see photos of the fire. Determined to return the Delta’s beloved eatery to its glory days, the Faulks began the long process of rebuilding. Over the next year, plans were drawn, earth moved, foundation poured, girders raised, equipment ordered, walls constructed, obstacles overcome, paint selected, electrical and plumbing installed, office set up, food ordered, menus printed, staff returned ... and finally, the big day came.

On November 26, 2008, the Cow Pen opened—bigger and better than ever.

Mississippi-River-Bridge-GrSituated in Arkansas on Highway 82 at the foot of the magnificent new Mississippi River Bridge, the Cow Pen today is poised to serve the expanded traffic expected from a new wave of economic development slated for the Ark-La-Miss.

“Dedicated to a tradition of quality and excellence from the past, with an eye toward current restaurant and culinary trends, we pledge our best efforts to create memorable Cow Pen dining experiences for you and your family for years to come.”
